Press Release

6 October 2025

Your bin days may be changing!

To get ready for the introduction of food waste collections in March next year, and to provide residents with an improved and more efficient waste collection service, Fareham Borough Council is making changes to its bin collection rounds.

This means that many residents’ bin collection days are likely to change from 3 November.

All residents will receive a letter in the post to confirm their new bin collection days, alongside a bin calendar for the rest of 2025, and details of any changes during the festive period. Even those residents who will not be affected by the change will receive a letter to confirm this, to avoid any confusion.

Until 31 October, residents should continue to put their bins out according to their usual collection schedule.

An additional one-off collection will be added to the rounds for residents that have a significant gap between their old and new general refuse (green top bin) collection days. Those residents affected will be informed of this additional collection in their letter. These collections will begin on the week commencing 27 October through to 7 November.

Executive Member for Streetscene, Cllr Ian Bastable, commented:

“The Council has not made changes to its bin collection schedule for over 20 years. However, with changing wards and boundaries, the increase of new homes in some areas and the introduction of food waste collection coming in March 2026, it was vital that our rounds were made more efficient and future proof. The result will be a more efficient service which will also help us lower our carbon emissions. I would kindly ask residents to keep their eyes open for their letter explaining their new bin days and ask for their patience while the new collection service gets fully established.”
