Fareham Housing awarded funding to help deliver future affordable homes

Fareham Housing (the Council’s social housing landlord) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £176,000 to help facilitate the delivery of future affordable housing in the Borough.

The Council is one of just 29 local authorities across the country who have been awarded grant from the governments’ Council Housebuilding Support Fund (CHSF). This national grant opportunity is aimed at supporting future affordable housing.

Fareham Housing will be using the funding to:
•    Maximise the use of its land assets by developing a pipeline of sites where new affordable homes can be provided
•    Identify opportunities to deliver affordable homes in areas of greatest need
•    Explore options for bespoke housing, such as disabled-adapted homes
•    Accelerate affordable housing projects already in the pipeline

Further grant opportunities will then be available toward the cost of building new Council homes through a new £39 billion Social and Affordable Homes programme, delivered by Homes England.

Examples of Fareham Borough Council sites which have been utilised to provide affordable homes include the side garden within the grounds of 51 Bellfield, where Fareham Housing built a new three-bedroom home. Work is also underway on the new Assheton Court development in Portchester which has seen the previous housing scheme demolished to make way for a new purpose built later living development with 60 apartments for the over 55s.

Executive Member for Housing, Cllr Fred Birkett said: “I am delighted that we have been awarded £176,000 from the CHSF fund to help us deliver future affordable housing in Fareham. Fareham Council is committed to using its own sites to continue to deliver a mix of affordable homes across the Borough and this funding will help us to identify the best sites where this can be achieved.

“I am extremely proud of our recent developments which have taken outdated or underused sites and transformed them into beautiful modern homes which are energy efficient, fit for purpose and available at affordable rates.”

If you would like to register your interest for Assheton Court, please contact the Housing team at Housing@fareham.gov.uk.

Delivery of new, affordable Council homes, is a key project set out in Priority One of the Council’s Corporate Strategy: Provide Housing Choices.
