Let’s Talk Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy Consultation

Fareham Borough Council is inviting taxi and private hire drivers, operators, and the public to comment on proposed updates to its Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy (formerly known as the Taxi Handbook).

The policy sets out requirements for drivers, vehicles, and operators licensed by the Council and aims to maintain high standards of safety, accessibility, and environmental responsibility.

The review follows updated national guidance, and best practice recommendations to ensure public safety and service standards.

The consultation is running until 5 January 2026, and the summary of changes can be viewed here: www.fareham.gov.uk/consultations.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Cllr Joanne Burton, said:

“The Council’s licensing policy is essential for protecting passengers and supporting a safe and reliable taxi and private hire service. I encourage everyone affected by these changes to share their views during the consultation.”

Chairman of the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Committee, Cllr Pamela Bryant, added:

“These proposed updates reflect our commitment to ensuring that taxi and private hire services in Fareham remain safe, fair, and responsive to community needs. We value input from drivers, operators, and residents to help shape a policy that works for everyone.”
