New social media channels for Holly Hill Rediscovered project

Fareham Borough Council has launched an Instagram account and Facebook group, both dedicated to the Holly Hill Rediscovered project. The social media accounts will enable the Council to share a wide range of video and photographs about the project, and support the information already on the Council’s website.

The Holly Hill Rediscovered project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, Arkwood Ltd is working with Fareham Borough Council to restore Holly Hill Woodland Park, revitalising this much-loved green space for people and nature. The 35-hectare site is made up of Victorian landscaped garden and parkland, set around a series of interconnecting ponds, lakes and water features made of Pulhamite stone, which need repair.

From June to October last year, a consultation was undertaken to gain insights from local people and groups to understand how the park is experienced. Over 840 people gave their views through pop-up engagement events, an online survey, focus groups with specific audiences, and interviews. Following the consultation, key themes emerged around transport, heritage, landscape and accessibility, including limited parking awareness, interest in the site’s history and natural features, and a desire for improved interpretation and accessible routes.

As we move towards the next stages of the project, the Council has created an Instagram account and a Facebook group, both called ‘Holly Hill Rediscovered’ where residents can comment and interact with posts relating to the site. By following the Instagram account or joining the Facebook group, locals can look forward to project updates, behind-the-scenes progress, fascinating historical facts, videos, and nature and wildlife insights.

Executive Member of Streetscene at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Ian Bastable, said:

“Holly Hill is one of our most treasured green spaces, and this project will ensure it can be enjoyed for generations to come. By joining the new Holly Hill Rediscovered social channels, residents can stay involved in the journey as the park’s heritage, wildlife and landscape are brought back to life.”

Delivering these improvements is a key project in Fareham Borough Council’s Corporate Strategy: Leisure opportunities for wellbeing and fun.

About The National Lottery Heritage Fund

Grant applications over £250,000 are assessed in two rounds. ‘Holly Hill Rediscovered’ has initially been granted round one development funding of £111,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, allowing it to progress with its plans. Detailed proposals are then considered by the Heritage Fund at second round, where a final decision is made on the full funding award of £856,569.

Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. That’s why as the largest funder for the UK’s heritage we are dedicated to supporting projects that connect people and communities to heritage, as set out in our strategic plan, Heritage 2033. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
Over the next 10 years, we aim to invest £3.6billion raised for good causes by National Lottery players to make a decisive difference for people, places and communities.
