Food Waste Collections starting next week!

Fareham Borough Council is reminding residents that its weekly food waste collection service is commencing next week, from Monday 30 March.

Now is the time for residents to start collecting their food scraps ahead of the first collections – every peel, crust and plate scraping counts towards boosting recycling rates and helping to provide power for the Borough.

Over 100,000 kitchen caddies and outdoor food waste bins have now been delivered to all Fareham residents along with information leaflets and your first roll of caddy liners. If you have not yet received your bin, please contact the Council on 01329 236100 or email customerservicecentre@fareham.gov.uk.

Residents may also see some of the Council’s food waste collection vehicles out and about over the next week. This is the Council’s collection crews taking part in some ‘dry run’ exercises to ensure that the service commences as seamlessly as possible from 30 March.

Food waste collections will be weekly, while all other collections are fortnightly – so remember – if you're putting a big bin out, put your outdoor food waste bin out too! You can find out your next bin collections date by heading to www.fareham.gov.uk/bincalendar

Executive Member for Streetscene, Cllr Ian Bastable, said:

“The start of our food waste collection service is the culmination of a huge amount of work behind the scenes. I am confident that the service will be delivered with minimum disruption to residents, and I encourage you all to do your bit to reduce your food waste and to recycle whatever you can’t eat.”

To find out more about the service or what you can put into your food waste bin, go to www.fareham.gov.uk/foodwaste.
