Fareham Borough Council invites feedback on draft private rented sector policies

Fareham Borough Council is seeking feedback on two new draft policies both of which will support new enforcement powers which came into force on 1 May 2026 under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.

The consultation focuses on two new draft policies:

The policies apply to the enforcement of housing standards in privately rented homes within the Fareham Borough.

Together, the policies set out how the Council will investigate complaints, protect private rented tenants, explain landlord responsibilities, and use enforcement action to improve housing standards across the Borough.

The law itself has been set nationally; however, the consultation is about ensuring the policies are clear, accessible, and easy to understand.

The consultation will run from 18 May until 4 August 2026. Feedback is welcomed from:

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Cllr Joanne Burton, said: “I am delighted that these draft policies have been developed as they will help us clearly set out how we use our new powers under the Renters’ Rights Act and ensure housing standards are maintained across the Borough. If you have any views on the proposals, we’d love to hear from you, so please do take part in the consultation.”
