Raising a flag for Armed Forces Day

Fareham Borough Council has marked this year’s Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June, by raising the Armed Forces Flag outside the Civic Offices in Fareham.

Representing the Armed Forces were Captain John Cromie, Commanding Officer of HMS Collingwood; Base Warrant Officer, WO1 Chris Lindop; Leading Hand, LH Gamble and 10 HMS Collingwood Sailors.

The ceremony was also attended by The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Tina Ellis, together with her Mayor’s Consort, Councillor Robert Ellis, who served with the Royal Marines for 25 years, completing his service at the rank of Warrant Officer First Class. Robert and Tina continue to maintain links with the Royal Marines and Royal Navy and have chosen to support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity as one of this year’s Mayoral charities.

Also representing Fareham Borough Council were Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mrs Susan Bayford; Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Sue Wilson; Executive Leader, Councillor Simon Martin and Chief Executive Officer, Andy Wannell.

The Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Tina Ellis, said: “With such close family ties to the Armed Forces it is a true honour to be present for the raising of the Armed Forces Day Flag. On behalf of myself, my husband, Cllr Robert Ellis, and Fareham Borough Council, I would like to express our appreciation for everything the Armed Forces have done and continue to do for our country ahead of Armed Forces Day this Saturday, 27 June. I know the importance of our armed forces within our Fareham Community and it’s right that we recognise all they contribute.”
