Fareham Housing Moves Forward with Plans for Future Affordable Homes

Fareham Borough Council is committed to finding the right homes for people in the right locations – a commitment which forms a key part of its Affordable Housing Strategy. This includes regenerating existing buildings and making better use of unused or underutilised sites.

Subject to completion of the formal contract and legal processes, Architects have now been procured for several future Fareham Housing developments, including:

  1. Melvin Jones House and St Marys Road Flats - The regeneration of a vacant affordable housing scheme, Architect PDP Architecture
  2. Wynton Way – The demolition of vacant garages and redevelopment of this area and adjacent vacant land, Architect MH Architects
  3. Menin House - Regeneration project of existing scheme. This is expected to progress late 2026/ early 2027, Architect PDP Architecture
  4. Henry Cort Drive - The vision for Fareham Park will see the ground of the existing community centre being re-purposed for affordable housing, subject to planning and once the new community facilities are completed. Architect KSA Architects.  More information can be found here.

The Melvin Jones House and St Marys Road Flats redevelopment has been prioritised, and plans are progressing at pace. Wessex Demolition is now in control of the site and is making plans for the scheduled demolition of the existing buildings.

Plans are also being made to demolish the vacant garages to the rear of Wynton Way Fareham ahead of progressing more detailed plans for the provision of new affordable homes on this site. An application has been submitted seeking formal approval for the demolition works to commence.

There will be an opportunity for residents to have their say on proposals for both sites, once the draft plans have been drawn up.

Executive Member for Housing, Cllr Fred Birkett, said: “This is an exciting time for Fareham Housing and I am impressed that the architect procurement process has been such a success. Regeneration projects are hugely important to deliver much-needed affordable homes within the Borough and make better use of underutilised sites. Finding the right architects to take on the challenges that each location presents is paramount and I am really pleased that this has been done successfully and equitably. I look forward to seeing what the architects present in due course.”

Delivery of new affordable Council homes is a key project set out in Priority One of the Council’s Corporate Strategy: Provide Housing Choices.
