Rolling out new skate parks in Fareham

Fareham Borough Council will be rolling out brand new skate parks in two Fareham locations, with works commencing as early as next week. Skate park specialist, Bendcrete Leisure LTD, has been appointed to carrying out the remodelling, which will use more durable and robust materials, after the existing metal facilities have deteriorated over time.

The replacement of the Wicor Skate Park in Portchester is due to start on Monday 20 September.  This park will have a street-influence design and features will be organised around a central spine that links two distinct zones: a transition zone anchored by a halfpipe at one end, and a street section at the other. Designs include:

These elements are arranged to allow natural lines and combinations rather than isolated obstacles, responding directly to consultation.

The Stubbington Skate Park will also be replaced, and this work will commence later this year. This park will feature a more organic design to create a dynamic and rideable space - using changes in the ground level to create flow and build momentum. Designs include:

These elements were chosen following community feedback that the current park lacks flow and that features feel too isolated and close together.

Both parks will be suitable for all skating abilities, from beginners to more experienced skaters, scooter riders and BMX riders. It will also be accessible for wheelchair users. The surrounding areas will be tidied up, shelters and line markings will be repainted and new signage and repairs will be completed.

Designs for both parks were finalised following public consultations, where two potential designs were submitted for each. Thousands of comments were received and even BMX Olympian Declan Brooks, and Noah Tiller (currently ranked 32nd in the World Skate Men’s Park Scootering Rankings) helped to refine the designs to help ensure the skate parks were inclusive of all ages, abilities and different riders.

Councillor Frair Burgess, Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, said:

“I am really happy that the works to replace these two skate parks will be commencing so soon, as they will provide more modern, durable and, most importantly, fun facilities for Fareham. The public consultations showed just how much people care about these facilities and their feedback was invaluable in creating our designs. These new skate parks will not only offer exciting places for people to enjoy but will also encourage residents of all ages to stay active, spend more time outdoors and support their physical and mental wellbeing. I look forward to seeing the completed parks later this year.”
