Simpler Recycling in Fareham
The Government has introduced new legislation to simplify refuse and recycling disposal so that more items can be recycled across England.
Fareham Borough Council is working with its partners, including Hampshire County Council who is responsible for receiving and processing any recycling, to meet the new legislation. To see how we are going to achieve this, please click on 'Simpler Recycling Roadmap to Compliance' towards the bottom of this webpage. We will provide progress updates as we move through the process.
In March 2026, we will introduce food waste collections in Fareham. You can find out more about these here.
The legislation also requires a wider range of recycling to be collected from the kerbside, including glass and additional plastic items from 31 March 2026. To facilitate this a new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) needs to be built in Hampshire that will be able to process the new mix of materials; Hampshire County Council has begun the process of the construction of the new MRF at Chickenhall Lane in Eastleigh. The new facility is planned to open in 2028 and will allow a full range of recyclable materials to be collected from the kerbside in line with the legislation.
