Food waste collections in Fareham
Weekly food waste collections start in Fareham from Monday 30 March, enabling you to boost the amount you recycle and help to provide power for our Borough.
When the service starts your food waste will be collected weekly on the same day as your waste or recycling, unless we contact you to tell you otherwise.
Getting ready for your new weekly food waste service
We'll be delivering everything you need for your new food waste service between January and March. There are over 52,000 of you so please be patient, everyone will have their new equipment before the service starts.
For inside your home:
- An indoor kitchen caddy so you can collect your food waste each day
- An information leaflet that tells you everything you need to know
For outside your home:
- If you have wheeled bins collected at the kerbside, we'll also provide you with an outdoor food waste bin. Simply write your house name or number on this bin using permanent marker or paint, so we know which one is yours.
- If you use communal waste bins, a separate communal bin will be delivered, specifically for food waste.
On the run up to the start of your food waste collection service:
- When your kitchen caddies and outdoor food waste bins are delivered, please store them safely and don't use them until the new service is due to start.
- Take out your information leaflet and keep it safe so you can refer to it later.
- From Monday 23 March you can start filling your kitchen caddies and outdoor food waste bins, ready for your first collection the following week.
- Start watching what food you're wasting each week. Reducing the amount of edible food you throw away will save you money and reduce your carbon footprint.

Your weekly food waste collection dates
- Your food waste caddies will be collected on the same day as your residual waste or recycling bins, unless we tell you otherwise. So remember – if you're putting a big bin out, put your outdoor food waste bin out too!
- Check what days your bins are collected here. Food waste collections will be added to the calendars later as we move towards the start of the service.
