Information for Pensioners
For people of pension age, the rules for the scheme are set by Central Government, not by the local authority. If you already claim pension age Council Tax Support, your entitlement will continue to be assessed under the same rules from 1 Apr 2026. We consider you of pension age if you have reached the qualifying age for state pension credit and if you have a partner they do not receive Income related Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit.
The scheme is means-tested. The amount a person can receive depends on:
- Who lives in the household
- Income and Capital
- The amount of your Council Tax liability
