Press Release

12 May 2020

Council to reopen its tennis courts

Fareham Borough Council’s ‘free to play’ tennis courts at Sarisbury Green, Titchfield Recreation Ground and Burridge Recreation Ground will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday).

This follows changes to Government guidance, which now allows more daily exercise outside, including tennis.

The courts at Park Lane Recreation Ground will also be reopened to the public.

The tennis clubs which lease Council owned courts at Warsash Recreation Ground, St Johns Recreation Ground, Locks Heath and Stubbington Recreation Ground have been contacted, but are yet to confirm their individual arrangements. The Council will update residents once these arrangements are known.

Executive Member for Streetscene at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Simon Martin, said: “We know how important exercise is to overall wellbeing, so I’m pleased that we are now able to re-open our tennis courts for residents to enjoy. This is a small step towards us being able to take part in ‘normal’ activities again. The pandemic isn’t over though, and it is crucial that residents continue to observe social distancing when they’re playing.

“I would like to thank our officers who have kept our courts maintained and ready for use again.”

The courts are available on a first come, first served basis; the Council does not take bookings.

The Council’s skate parks will remain closed.
