Virtual Fareham in Bloom competition launching next week

Residents with a passion for gardening are invited to enter our first ever ‘Virtual Fareham in Bloom’ competition opening on Monday June 29 and closing on Friday 31 July.

There are a total of six categories to choose from, so there is something for everyone no matter how big or small your outdoor space is.

The categories are:

Entry is free and open to anyone who lives or has a business within the Borough. Entrants simply need to complete an online form and send a photograph of their garden by Friday 31 July to enter.

Unlike previous years, where gardens were judged in person, this year’s Virtual Fareham in Bloom will be judged solely on the photograph submitted.

There will be two winners per category, both of whom will win a prize.  One will be chosen by public vote, and one by a judge’s vote. Prizes have kindly been donated by St Margaret’s Nurseries and Fareham Shopping Centre.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “Fareham in Bloom is a treasured part of the Borough’s heritage, with our residents entering year after year to show off their wonderful gardens.

“This year we were unable to go ahead with our planned events and competition due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We hope that our new virtual event will provide residents with a much-needed positivity boost.

“Gardening can be great  fun and, while it recognises the efforts of individuals with a passion for plants and gardening, the competition also helps to brighten up the local community in which we all live, visit or work. I would urge all residents to take part if they can and show off their gardens”
