Booking for Countryside Events now open

Fareham Borough Council’s Countryside Service is running a number of events for local residents this year, including guided walks and popular willow craft workshops, which are now open for booking.

The first willow workshop takes place on 4 May at United Reformed Church, Osborn Road South, from 10am until 2pm, where residents can create a spring obelisk for the garden. Tickets are £25 per person.

Two walks are set to take place during the summer, beginning with a butterfly and wildflower walk on 1 June at Anson Grove and Portchester Common, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Sessions are arranged for 10am until 12pm and 1.30pm until 3.30pm. Following this is a wildflower walk at Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Park on 26 July from 10.30am until 12.30pm, where developing wildlife will be observed and recorded. Tickets for each of these events are £3 per person, with a maximum of 12 people per session.

Later in the year, two more willow workshops will be held at United Reformed Church. On 28 September, from 9.30am until 3.30pm, residents can use hedgerow materials to create an autumn hedgerow basket. Then, just in time for Christmas, participants can create a winter wreath from willow and decorate it with natural materials. The session takes place on 7 December from 10am until 12pm. Tickets for each of the workshops are £25.

Executive Member for Streetscene, Councillor Ian Bastable, said:

“These events are perfect for residents who want to learn new skills or get outdoors to engage with wildlife, and I am pleased that our Countryside Service team has arranged them this year. I urge people to book their places quickly, before the sessions fill up.”

Tickets are available for our countryside events by calling 01329 824850. More information can be found on our website: https://www.fareham.gov.uk/leisure/out_and_about_in_fareham/countrysideevents.aspx.
