Let’s Talk Mutual Exchange of Council Housing

Fareham Borough Council has launched a public consultation to give residents the opportunity to have their say on a new Draft Mutual Exchange Policy.

Under the Housing Act 1985, eligible tenants of social housing have the right to exchange their home with another eligible tenant. This is referred to as a ‘mutual exchange’. The Mutual Exchange Policy provides comprehensive information regarding the process and the supporting legislation for tenants interested in exchanging their homes.

The consultation will run until Monday 16 September. Its purpose is to gain feedback from Council Housing Tenants on the policy document, to ensure that the mutual exchange process is clear, concise, and easy to follow. Tenants can have their say by taking part in a short survey here: https://bit.ly/3WKPTmg.

Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Fred Birkett, said:

“The Council takes great pride in making its communications and processes as easy as possible for our customers to follow. The Mutual Exchange process can be complicated, so we want a policy that is clear and easy for our tenants to understand.  I encourage tenants to take the time to review the document to ensure that they have their say on our proposed approach moving forward.”
