Fareham shines in recent Corporate Peer Challenge

Fareham Borough Council has received glowing feedback following a recent Corporate Peer Challenge, conducted by the Local Government Association (LGA).

The comprehensive review highlighted specific strengths such as leadership, partnership working, organisational culture and service delivery. Large scale projects such as Daedalus, Fareham Live, Town Centre Regeneration and Welborne were also recognised as bringing positive benefits to residents and the local economy.

The Peer Challenge, which took place from 10-12 March 2025, involved a team of senior local government councillors and officers who undertook a thorough review of key finance, performance, and governance information. The team spent three days at the Council, providing robust, strategic, and credible challenge and support.

A feedback report detailing the Peer Team’s positive findings was presented at a meeting of the Council’s Executive on 3 June. This was accompanied by an action plan to implement the report’s recommendations, designed to support continued improvement at Fareham.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Simon Martin said “I am really proud of the findings of the Corporate Peer Challenge, which praises our approach to running the Council, as well as recognising the knowledge, skill and hard work of our officers and Councillors. Our action plan will help us to focus our efforts for continual improvement to further serve our community.”

The feedback report and action plan can be found on the Council website: https://www.fareham.gov.uk/about_the_council/corporatepeerchallenge.aspx.
