Fareham Borough Council publishes Air Quality Strategy

Fareham Borough Council is pleased to announce that its newly adopted Air Quality Strategy 2025-2030 has been published.

Air pollution can have a serious effect on people’s health and on our environment and all local councils are required to have plans in place to address it.  Air quality has improved significantly in the Borough over the last 10 years because of actions identified and implemented within the Council’s previous Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP).

The new strategy focuses on six broad topics which set out the Council’s objectives for influencing a reduction in air pollution. These topics have been chosen as they align strategically with the priorities within the Council’s Corporate Strategy, with a particular emphasis on the priority to ‘Respond to climate change and protect the environment’. The objectives are as follows:

Included in the document are details of the work that has been undertaken in the past and future projects on which the Council will be focused, such as the need to monitor and manage pollution from particulate matter.

The full Air Quality Strategy 2025-2030 can be found on the Council’s website:

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Councillor Joanne Burton, said:

“Fareham Borough Council’s new Air Quality Strategy sets out a clear and ambitious roadmap for improving the air we all breathe, reflecting our commitment to tackling climate change, protecting biodiversity, and promoting sustainable communities. Cleaner air means a healthier Fareham, and we’re determined to make that a reality.”
