Food Waste Collections Coming Soon!

To get ready for the introduction of weekly food waste collections from Monday 30 March, the Council has now started delivering everything residents need to get started.

This includes:

There are over 100,000 caddies and bins to be delivered, so residents are urged to be patient and not to contact the team until all deliveries are completed. An update on outstanding deliveries can be found on the Council website below.

Food waste makes up approximately one-third of all household refuse currently collected in Fareham. While reducing food waste as much as possible is, by far, the best thing residents can do for the environment, recycling food waste will also help improve the environmental impact of the Borough.

Executive Member for Streetscene, Cllr Ian Bastable, said: “While most households will avoid food waste whenever possible, things like plate scrapings, teabags, bones and inedible parts of food are inevitable, and still make up a third of the waste we collect in Fareham each week. By sending our food waste for recycling, we can actually produce power for the whole region, and that can only be a good thing. We will deliver everything you need to get started, but please be patient while we make our deliveries ahead of the service starting on 30 March.”

When the service starts, food waste will be collected weekly on the same day as residents’ refuse and recycling, unless you are contacted by the Council directly with alternative arrangements. Residents can find out more at: www.fareham.gov.uk/foodwaste.
