Fareham to host Pride Events throughout June

Fareham Borough Council is supporting a range of local organisations and venues as they mark LGBTQ+ Pride Month this June, with a programme of events taking place across the town.

Throughout the month, community groups, cultural venues and businesses will be hosting activities that provide opportunities for people to learn, connect and come together in an inclusive and welcoming way.

From 8 to 19 June, Fareham Library will host a new Pride History Exhibition. The exhibition explores key moments and personal stories from LGBTQ+ history and has been created by Y Services and their young people as part of the town’s wider Pride programme.

Fareham Live will also be supporting Pride Month with a programme of LGBTQ+ inspired performances and shows across June, celebrating a range of voices and experiences. Further details will be announced in due course.

One of the events taking place during the month is the Fareham Pride Picnic on 13 June, from 11am to 2pm in the Civic Gardens. This informal, welcoming event will include live entertainment and opportunities to meet local LGBTQ+ community groups, offering a chance for people to spend time together in the town centre.

Local businesses are also getting involved. The Golden Lion will mark Pride Month by decorating the venue throughout June and hosting a number of themed events, including Drag Bingo, a garden party with its resident drag queen and a Drageoke session followed by a disco.

To help support the month-long programme, Pride themed colours, banners and displays will be visible in Fareham Town Centre throughout June. Businesses along West Street and in surrounding areas are encouraged to show their support by decorating their windows.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Frair Burgess, said:

“Pride Month in Fareham is being shaped by local organisations, venues and community groups who are coming together to create opportunities for learning, reflection and celebration. The Council is pleased to support these events and help create an inclusive town centre environment where everyone feels welcome.”

Businesses and organisations in Fareham that are planning activities or events to celebrate Pride in June are invited to get in touch by emailing leisure@fareham.gov.uk.
