The council offers a competitive salaries and benefits package which is regularly reviewed.
Our job adverts tell you the salary we're offering. These are based on a local grading structure. You can see full salary scales below. All our employees are paid monthly, on the last working day of the month and payments are made into bank/building society accounts. Subject to satisfactory performance, salary increases are paid on 1 April each year until you reach the maximum for that grade. Annual cost of living pay rises are negotiated and agreed nationally. They are effective from 1 April and are subject to locally agreed implementation in consultation with the Trades Unions.
For the year commencing 1st April 2014, the Chief Executive Officer salary is £126,250.
Standard working hours are 37 per week but part time posts are available and posts can be considered for job sharing unless stated. Starting and finishing times vary according to the nature of the work but standard office hours are 8.45am until 5.15pm Monday to Friday (with an hour for lunch).
We recognise that Work/Life Balance is important to everyone and greater flexibility in working arrangements can help our employees balance home and work more effectively. It can also help us to provide more effective and efficient services.

Employees are entitled to normal Bank and Public Holidays although in some sections special arrangements apply when we need to maintain services. In addition, two extra statutory days and one discretionary day are granted while we close the Civic Offices over the Christmas and New Year period.
It is never too early to start a pension. As a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), you will belong to a scheme providing access to high-quality pension benefits based on final pay (CARE - career average revalued earnings from April 2014).
The LGPS is a contributory scheme where employees currently pay between 5.5% and 7.5% (5.5% and 12.5% from April 2014) of their earnings (determined by the full time pay of the job) towards their pension and we pay a further sum, currently around 19%. If you pay into a company, occupational or personal pension scheme you can ask for the benefits you have built up to be transferred into the LGPS.
We help with child care costs for our employees with a childcare voucher salary sacrifice scheme through Computershare .
In addition, our employees receive preferential nursery rates at Good Manors Day Nursery which offer a 5% discount. Its nurseries offer childcare for children aged three months to five years at 46 and 60 place nurseries in Fareham. For more information, contact them on 01329 823222 / 230123 or visit their website - www.goodmanors.co.uk . Please note that our policies mean we are unable to recommend this nursery as a preferred provider.
We take our responsibilities to manage sickness absence seriously. If you are ill and unable to work you will generally be entitled to occupational sick pay depending on the circumstances. Your exact entitlement will vary according to the length of your service.
If you travel to work by public transport we offer an interest-free season ticket loan repayable by deduction from your salary.
To be classified as an "essential user" for which you will be paid a car allowance, you will need to meet specified criteria and, as part of your contract, you will be required to provide a car for use on Council business at all times. The job advertisement will let you know whether a post is designated for an "essential user". If it is and you do not own a vehicle, we offer loans at preferential rates to help with buying a car. Employees who occasionally use their vehicle on Council business are "casual users" and receive a mileage rate based on HM Revenue & Customs guidelines. If you have a disability and do not have a driving licence or access to an appropriate vehicle, please don't be deterred from applying for a post that requires travel in the Borough if you can demonstrate that you can meet this in other ways, such as by using public transport.
Authorised car parking is available for employees.
We operate a generous and flexible removal & relocation (42 KB) scheme to help newly appointed employees to meet the cost of relocation, removal and other related expenses.
Our housing support scheme (93 KB) provides financial support to newly appointed employees moving to Fareham from outside the South East Region (this means outside Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, London, Bedfordshire and Essex).
Everyone Active offers all our employees the opportunity to become a member with a half price 'start up fee' and a further 20% discount on monthly membership payments.
Please note that Fareham Borough Council is unable to recommend Everyone Active as a preferred provider.
Employees are entitled to a 10% discount off First Bus travel passes and they are available for one, three and 12 months. Permanent employees are entitled to lease a new bicycle and safety equipment up to the value of £1,000 and to pay it back over a 12 month period through a salary sacrifice scheme. To be eligible for the scheme, at least half an employee's bicycle journeys should be made to work or between sites in connection with your work.
