Titchfield Abbey

An image of Titchfield AbbeyOriginally a 13th century abbey, this grand building on the outskirts of Titchfield was converted into Place House, a mansion for the Earls of Southampton. It is claimed that some of Shakespeare's plays, including 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' were first performed here. The grand Tudor Gatehouse External Hyperlink dominates the remains.

Opening times:

1 April - 30 September: 10am to 6pm

1 October - 31 October: 10am to 5pm

1 November - 31 March: 10am to 4pm

25 December: closed

(Times can be flexible as the gate is run by volunteers and also depends on weather conditions)
