Community Funding Criteria
Supporting local projects that make a difference
Fareham Borough Council offers Community Funding Grants to support projects that benefit local communities or the environment within the Borough of Fareham. If you're a resident or part of a community organisation, you may be eligible to apply.
Who can apply?
- Community organisations with non-profit status
- Individuals applying on behalf of a community group
- Applicants must be based in the Borough of Fareham
Applications from businesses or for-profit entities will not be considered.
What can you apply for?
You can apply for funding to cover one-off capital costs or, in some cases, short-term revenue costs for new projects. Examples include:
- Equipment purchases
- Venue improvements
- Start-up costs for community initiatives
Funding is not available for:
- Ongoing running costs (e.g. rent, utilities)
- Personal or commercial gain
- Holidays, meals, or expeditions
- Retrospective funding for projects already started
Key Funding Criteria
To be eligible, your project must:
- Benefit a large number of Fareham residents
- Be accessible to the wider community
- Be sustainable beyond the initial funding
- Include a financial contribution from your organisation or other sources
If applying for more than £5,000, you must match the funding with at least the same amount from other sources.
What you will need to provide
To help us assess your application quickly, please include:
- A copy of your organisation's accounts
- Quotes for goods or services
- A completed application checklist (available on the website)
Funding restrictions
- You can only apply for projects that have not yet started
- If you've received funding from us before, you must wait 2 years before applying again

Common reasons for rejection include:
- Incomplete documentation
- Applications from businesses
- Projects not aligned with community benefit goals
