Fun Palaces

Sharing Skills, Connecting Communities, Creating Tiny Revolutions

Weekend of Celebration: Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October 2022

Ashcroft Art Centre will join hundreds of Fun Palaces nationally and internationally set to explode with free and fun activities for all.

Ashcroft Fun Palace will hold a series of activities for all that enable you to think, play and create.

This Fun Palace was created by Fareham community by sharing and celebrating the skills of everyone. Join us this weekend and master new skills from your neighbours, share hobbies with friends old and new, and celebrate the passions and enthusiasms of all of us.

Fun Palaces is an ongoing national and international campaign, nurturing and supporting the potential and positivity of sharing people’s enthusiasms, passions and skills with their own local community. Fun Palaces has an annual weekend of events each October, although Fun Palaces can also happen at any time of year.

Watercolour for Wellbeing

During this session we will be exploring a series of different techniques using a combination of pastels and watercolour. No traditional artistic skill required!

You will be focusing of the process of the artwork and wellbeing, with artist and wellbeing focused educator Georgia de Buriatte.

Each technique is very easy, and will produce visually stunning results, with pattern making and abstracts in mind. We will be taking inspiration from multiple artists, and nature in our work, connecting and creating a calming atmosphere.

Finally we will be developing collaborative and individual work exploring how music and breath in combination can lead to calming and achievable 20 minute art works. Perfect for calming down in a stressful situation, or kickstarting your creative practice!

Silver Hoop Earrings - Evening Workshop with Jessica Marie

Who doesn’t love a pair of hoops?

Come along and make your very own, unique pair!

This is a complete beginners Silversmithing class, so no experience is needed. During the class I will teach you all about tradition silversmithing tools and how to use them correctly and safely. You will mainly work with wire, twisting, texturing and manipulating to create your own hoop earrings. As well as soldering and texturing you will learn to form your earrings and finishing off with polishing techniques.

During the class you will make one pair of silver earrings based on your own design.

Small classes to allow for plenty of one-to-one support!

Please bring glasses as you will need them for close up work, no opened toed shoes and long hair must be tied back.

Ages 16+ only.

Join Clare from Petal & Bird to learn how to make your own paper rose. Clare will teach you each stage of the process to create your own lasting paper flower.

Clare has been creating paper flowers since 2016 where she first fell in love with the process when creating her own paper wedding flowers.

She specialises in working with crepe paper to create realistic flowers for other couples weddings, first ''paper'' anniversary bouquet recreations and celebrating special occasions with lasting flowers.

Love, care and attention to detail is given to each petal and leaf to create her bespoke work, as well as sharing her passion with others through her paper flower workshops and home crafting kits.

Sustainable fashion marketing challenge

During this three-day course, you will explore all sorts of things fashion!

Working with Georgia de Buriatte, tutor at the Winchester School of Art and University for the Creative Arts, you will create a series of works great for fun or function. You will explore different elements of fashion design such as designing and developing textiles with weaving and print; creating personalised look books; designing and making jewellery; styling and marketing second hand designs and much more!

Using seasonal flowers and foliage, twigs and other suitable autumnal materials we will spend a fun evening creating an interesting and unusual Halloween Arrangement in using a pumpkin as a container.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Students: Please bring a pumpkin around 8 or 9 inches in size and a knife and scoop to hollow out the pumpkin and a suitable container or cardboard box to transport your fabulous creation home in. All other materials will be supplied but please feel free to bring any other Halloween related items you may have embellish and personalise your arrangement.
