Press Release

10 December 2018

Save the date - Saturday 8 June 2019

Residents in Fareham are being asked to 'save the date' so they can join in a special community event to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Plans are underway for a large event at Solent Airport at Daedalus on 8 June 2019 from 10am to 4pm. It will be a fitting place to join in the festivities as Daedalus was the busiest military airfield on the south coast on D-Day.

Fun fair rides, children's activities, market stalls and stage performances from local groups in arena performances are all set to take place as part of the Daedalus celebrations. Aircraft will also be a key feature and further details will be released as soon as the final arrangements are in place.

Chairman of the Daedalus Steering Group, Cllr Trevor Cartwright, said: "This is going to be a huge event and one which we don't want anyone to miss out on – so please do put the date in your diaries.

"D-Day is a day we should all remember and mark and because of Daedalus' significance during the war, it is fitting to have a commemoration event at the site.

"Council officers are currently putting together plans to ensure this is a day to remember. So, make sure you don't miss out on what will be the biggest event of next year."

Tickets will go on sale in the New Year once the programme of events has been finalised.
