We receive frequent requests to introduce lower speed limits on certain Borough roads. Some of these are introduced according to rules set out by the Department for Transport (DfT) Strict rules are in place to ensure that a speed limit is appropriate for the particular road and that it can be enforced. The police are responsible for enforcing the speed limits so all proposals to introduce changes in speed limits must be approved by them. For more guidance and information, please download this DfT leaflet: Information for Drivers on Speed Limits (75 KB).
